IMF demands full price of electricity to be collected from consumers: Tabish Gohar

LAHORE (92 News) - PM's Special Assistant on Power Tabish Gohar has said that the IMF demanded the full price of electricity be collected from the consumers.

Talking to the 92 News program "Ho Kya Raha Hai", the special assistant said that the prime minister stressed not to increase electricity prices, if the rupee remained stable, cheap electricity would be available in the future and revolving loans increased due to expensive contracts.

He further said that there is a limit of the economy to increase electricity prices because electricity rates are interlinked with the value of the rupee. "If the rupee remains stable then the electricity will be cheaper," he added.

Tabish Gohar said that a coal plant has been set up in Sahiwal, coal is being brought from Karachi to this plant, which has increased the cost by Rs1.5 per unit. The plant was supposed to cost Rs1.5 billion but was built at two billion rupees, which caused of electricity more expensive.
