Initiatives like Ravi project bring prosperity in country: PM Imran Khan
LAHORE (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday inaugurated the River Ravi Urban Development Authority on Friday.
Addressing the ceremony on Friday, he said that the Ravi project is very essential to protect Lahore. “In the past, there was no concept of pollution in the city. The country does not attract wealth through the projects like Orange Line or Metro. A subsidy of Rs 28 billion is given on these projects. The projects like Ravi project bring prosperity in the country,” he said.
The prime minister said that pollution increased to expansion of the city and an increase in the population. “Green areas are decreasing. The production of wheat and sugarcane also reduced and as a result, the problems of food security emerged. We faced wheat shortage during the last two years. Now we had to import cotton as well,” he maintained.
He said that underground water has reached 800 feet during the last 15 years. “The River Ravi has shrunk to a drain. The Ravi project has become inevitable. There will be water issues if we did not launched the project. Lahore should become a modern city under planning,” he said.
He said that barrages would be constructed to bring water towards Ravi. “Dirty water will be thrown into River Ravi after treating it,” he added.
The prime minister said that six million trees will be planted in the Ravi project. “It is an Rs 5 trillion project and it will be assigned to investors,” he added.
He announced to monitor the project himself.
