International Women’s Day being observed today
LAHORE (92 News) – International Women’s Day is being observed on Thursday in a bid to highlight women’s services for society by making a pledge to try give them their due status and respect.
This year’s theme for the day is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.
This year, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice.
Different political, social, cultural and educational organizations have arranged conferences, seminars, exhibitions, festivals and concerts to mark the International Women’s Day.
Worldwide gatherings, conferences, exhibitions and festivals will be held today to mark the day.
International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year to commemorate the struggle for women rights.
More than 1 billion women around the world lack legal protection against domestic sexual violence. The global gender pay gap is 23 percent, rising to 40 percent in rural areas, and the unpaid work done by many women goes unrecognized. Without concerted action, millions more girls will be subjected to genital mutilation over the next decade.
