Karachi heatwave: Death toll reaches 1,380; Government orders burial of unclaimed corpses
KARACHI (92 News) – Death toll in on Saturday reached a staggering 1,380 another 23 people died on the morning of the seventh day of the heatwave (Saturday).
According to details, as many as 13 more persons lost their lives in Jinnah hospital, while five person each died in Civil Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Zardari returned to Karachi from his Dubai trip, summoning a high-level meeting to discuss situation emerging after intense heat wave in Sindh. CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah ordered the burial of unaccounted for dead bodies, in light morgues having no more space to store the dead.
Despite the drop in temperature, the death toll continues to rise, with victims of the heat wave dying of heat stroke, dehydration or other heat-related illnesses – with the elderly and poor the worst-affected groups.
