SRINAGAR (92 News) – Hurriyet leaders, including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, were placed under house arrest and barred from offering public prayers.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik was placed under house arrest just hours ahead of the morning prayers on Wednesday. Police cordoned off his residence and asked Yasin sahib to stay in his room.

Indian officials said that their presence might have led to protests and violence at the large Eid gatherings.

Eidul Fitr was celebrated in Kashmir even as clashes between anti-India protesters and security personnel rocked the Muslim-majority Valley after the celebration coincided with that in Pakistan and Arab countries.

In Srinagar, thousands of Muslims gathered at Eidgah prayer ground and Hazratbal shrine to offer prayers, while smaller gatherings were reported from around the town.
