Kh Asif appreciates vibrant role of SCO for regional cooperation

BEIJING (92 News) – Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday appreciated the vibrant role of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the region as a significantly vital forum for regional cooperation.

He said this in his meeting with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of the People’s Republic of China while visiting China to attend the Council of Foreign Minister’s meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

In the meeting, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on all matters of mutual concern. Khawaja Asif thanked the member states from cooperation and support for Pakistan.

The minister congratulated his Chinese counterpart on his reelection as Foreign Minister and elevation as State Councilor and also congratulated him on re-election of President Xi Jinping as President of People’s Republic of China and as the “Core” leader of CPC.

He underlined Pakistan’s support to China’s active chairmanship of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2017-2018. Pakistan looks forward to a productive and fruitful meeting of Heads of State of SCO to be held in Qingdao in June 2018.

Khawaja Asif also appreciated the Chinese initiative for Pakistan-China-Afghanistan Foreign Ministers’ Trilateral Mechanism for enhancing cooperation with Afghanistan. He also apprised him of the grave situation prevailing in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi reassured Pakistan that the relations between the two countries are as firm as ever and will never rust.


The top Chinese diplomat said his country will continue to firmly support Pakistan.

He said: “We are ready to work together with our Pakistani brothers to undertake the historical mission of national rejuvenation and achieve the great dream of national prosperity and development.”

Wang Yi further said: “In this way, our iron friendship with Pakistan will never rust and be tempered into steel.”
