Khwaja Asif defends Pervez Rashid after statement about seminaries
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif has said that there are 22,000 seminaries in the country of which just three to four percent are involved in terrorism.
Defending the Federal Minister Information Pervez Rashid’s statement about seminaries being the breeding ground of terrorists on Tuesday, he said that Parvez Rasheed’s statement was interpreted in a wrong way. “If we don’t get out of militant thought the menace of terrorism would not be averted,” he said. “Pakistan is facing terrorism for the last 30 years and we are still reeling from the wrong decisions made by the previous governments.”
He went on to say that putting up banners or announcing fatwas against Rashid is not a service to Islam, adding that the information minister had already apologised and offered a clarification on his remarks in Senate, so the matter should be let go.
Earlier on May 3, Pervez Rashid had said: “These universities of ignorance, to whom we give donations and hides, are giving an ideology of hatred and conservatism to the society.”
