Lawyers observe across the country
LAHORE (92 News) – Lawyers across the country are observing strike and boycotted the court proceedings to protest against the non-bailable arrest order for Lahore High Court (LHC) Bar Association Multan President Sher Zaman in contempt of court case.
The legal fraternity strongly condemned the non-bailable arrest order for Multan High Court (LHC) Bar Association Multan President Sher Zaman in contempt of court case.
All entrances to the Lahore High Court (LHC) building have been blocked with containers and a heavy contingent of Police has been deployed.
A larger bench of the LHC headed by Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah ordered to arrest Sher Zaman Qureshi, head of the bar association of LHC Multan bench, and another lawyer Qaiser Abbas Kazmi.
Earlier, clashes broke out between protesting lawyers and security forces in Lahore on Monday, August 21.
Lawyers demonstrating in support of the president of the Multan chapter of the Lahore High Court Bar Association’s (LHCBA) threw stones at officers outside Lahore High Court (LHC).
Police officers used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the lawyers.
All road access to the LHC has been blocked by security forces and the protesters had organized at The Mall.
The president of the LHCBA announced that lawyers across Punjab would hold a general strike on Tuesday, August 22. Further demonstrations may occur.
