Legal team met with Nawaz, Maryam in Adiala jail

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – The five-member legal team of Sharif family met on Thursday with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar in Adiala jail.

As per details, the legal team comprising Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris and Maryam’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz met the duo and Maryam’s husband Captain (r) Safdar Awan at the Adiala jail, where the legal counsel provided law consultations about their cases.

The legal team discussed about the appeal which was filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) against Avenfield verdict with Sharif family who are currently facing the conviction punishment in money trial.

Talking to the journalists after meeting, Advocate Pervaiz said, “Mian Sb is determined and hopeful. Nawaz Sharif feels he was not granted the facilities that he should have been given.”

Pervaiz also said that Capt (r) Safdar and Maryam Nawaz do not want to seek any facility beyond those offered in the jail manual.

Maryam’s counsel said further said that Safdar is a heart patient and his medical records are available. Due to the infection of ear and throat, prescriptions for medicines has been given by the Rawalpindi district headquarter hospital. Whereas the proper treatment will be continued till hi health recovery in the jail.

On Thursday, a pre-arranged meeting between the lawyers and the father-daughter duo was cancelled by authorities at Adiala jail. Haris and Advocate Pervaiz were notified via phone that their meeting had been cancelled upon arriving at the jail on July 19.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and slapped a £8 million fine while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to eight years with a £2 million fine in the Avenfield corruption reference by an accountability court earlier this month.

Sharif family filed the appeals against the Avenfield verdict in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and the IHC issued accepted the appeals and issued a written orders for hearing the appeals after summer vacations.
