LAHORE (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have emerged as leading parties after Polling for local government by-elections was held in 57 Union Councils of Punjab and 44 Union Councils of Sindh.

According to unofficial results, the PML-N is leading in Punjab by obtaining 20 seats and the PPP has strengthened its position by bagging 24 in Sindh.

The Independent candidates won 17 seats, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and Pakistan Muslim League-Zia could only bag one seat each.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had been postponed elections in 57 Union Councils of Punjab and 44 Union Councils of Sindh following the complaints of clashes, improper printing of ballot papers, shortage of ballot papers and reservations of candidates.

The ECP has once again postponed local government elections in Sanghar and Badin districts scheduled for today citing law and order situation. The decision was taken on the request of the Sindh Government due to poor law and order situation in the area.
