LHC terms surcharge on electricity bills illegal, orders reimbursement
LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court on Friday termed surcharge on electricity bills illegal, ordering the State to reimburse the amount received to the consumers.
A two-member bench of the LHC comprising Justice Aysha Malik and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard the case pertaining to 270 applications of the same nature. The court ordered that surcharges in the name of Neelum-Jehlum, Over-date and Equalization are illegal, ordering the concerned people to reimburse the amount taken to the consumers. “Provision of electricity is a duty of the State. Surcharging which is undue,” it said.
The Additional Attorney General requested delay in action on the order, which the court turned down.
