Maj Shabbir being remembered on martyrdom anniversary today
LAHORE (92 News) – The 44th martyrdom anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif, who was martyred during Indo-Pak war in 1971, is being observed today.
A ceremony was held at Miani Sahib Graveyard, which was attended by his sister, son and daughter-in-law along with high ranking military officials, who laid a floral wreath.
It was on December 6, 1971, that he embraced martyrdom near Sulemanki Headworks when he was assigned the task of capturing the high bund (ground) overlooking the Gurmukh Khera and Beriwala villages in the Sulemanki sector.
Major General Kaleem Asif laid floral wreath at the grave of Major Shabbir Sharif on behalf of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, while Maj Shabbir Sharif’s Unit Commander also laid floral wreath and offered fateha.
On the occasion, Maj Shabbir Sharif’s son Taimoor Sharif said that the is what we have done for the country is the question not that what martyrs have done, adding that now is the time to do something for country.
Provincial Food Minister Bilal Yaseen also attended the ceremony and offered fateha.
