Massive fire engulfs London high-rise in flames
LONDON (92 News) – A huge fire has broken out at a tower block in Latimer Road in west London, with eyewitnesses reporting that they can see residents trapped at the top of the building.
Firefighters were battling a massive fire in a London apartment high-rise early morning. One side of the building appeared to be in flames, and 45 fire engines and 200 firefighters were called to the scene.
London Fire Brigade confirmed that more than 200 fire fighters are tackling the blaze at Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate, with 40 fire engines sent to the location.
The blaze was first reported at 01:16 am, with the Met Police confirming that people are being treated for a “range of injuries”.
However, eyewitnesses have reported that people are still trapped at the top of the building which is believed to have broken out on the second floor and engulfed up to 25 floors above it. Small lights that look like torches have been seen by those on the ground, with individuals claiming the building is “close to burning through”.
An police update issued around 04:00 said: “Residents continue to be evacuated.”
Sadiq Khan has issued a statement, calling it a ‘”major incident” that is being tackled by 40 fire engines and 200 firefighters.
