Met Office issues cyclone alert for Karachi
KARACHI (92 News) – The Meteorological Department has issued a cyclone alert for Karachi after spotting development of a low pressure in Arabian Sea.
In a statement on Thursday, the Met Office said persistence of clouds shows an area of convection with a potential of development of a cyclonic circulation over there.
“Sea surface temperatures and upper air analysis also point toward the development of a deep low pressure area. The numerical models are continuously indicating such cyclonic activity in Arabian Sea at a distance of 1,600km south of Pakistan coast in next couple of days,” it said.
The statement said that Karachi Meteorological Department’s Cyclone Warning Centre is monitoring the local and regional meteorological conditions regularly.
“A weather advisory, in case of any cyclonic activity, will be issued in next 24 hours. All stakeholders and concerned authorities are advised to keep them abreast about weather advisories of PMD in coming days,” it said.
