Music maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan being remembered on 19th death anniversary
LAHORE (92 News) – Legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is being remembered on his 19th death anniversary on Tuesday (today).
The legendary singer started his glorious career with Qawwalis and gained international attention and fame through the World Music and Dance Festival after which, the magic of his voice transcended all boundaries.
Born in Faisalabad, Khan had his first public performance at the age of 16, at his father’s chelum. He went on to release movie scores and albums in Europe, India, Japan, Pakistan, and the US.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan released as many as 25 Qawwali albums which earned him several awards and honours. His massive hit Haq Ali Ali and Dam Mast Qalandar became household anthems, something that became Ustaad’s introduction for years to come.
The music maestro’s first major hit was the song Haq Ali Ali while he also did joint ventures with well-known international singers. His songs are still alive among his fans and also youngsters, and have defined the art-form of Qawwali for the generations to come.
The Pakistan government had awarded him with pride of performance for his splendid work in the field of music.
The legend Qawwal died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 49 on 16 August, 1997, at the peak of his career.
