NA passes resolution to condemn execution of Bangladesh JI ameer
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to condemn the execution of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
The resolution demanded the government raise the issue of the hanging of political opponents with the United Nations.
Kh Saad Rafique said that the hanging of political opponents in Bangladesh was a serious issue. “Being Pakistanis, we are ashamed of it,” he said.
In Punjab Assembly, Opposition Leader Mian Mahmoodur Rashid presented the resolution against the execution of Motiur Rahman. “The Bangladesh JI ameer has been hanged for his love for Pakistan.”
On the other hand, JI ameer Sirajul Haq led the funeral in absentia of Motiur Rahman on the Mall Road, Lahore.
A large number of people from different walks of life attended his funeral.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan is deeply saddened over the hanging of the Bangladesh Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami. “His only sin was upholding the constitution and laws of Pakistan. The act of suppressing the opposition by killing their leaders through flawed trials is completely against the spirit of democracy. The execution is also unfortunate for the people of Bangladesh who had elected Nizami as their representative in the Parliament.”
He said that the international community had objected to the steps taken by the Bangladesh government to impose restrictions on the independence of judiciary. “As part of the 1974 Tripartite Agreement, the Bangladesh government had decided not to proceed with the trials as an act of clemency. The Bangladesh government, therefore, should uphold its commitments as per the agreement.”
Pakistan offers condolences to the bereaved family members and the followers of Motiur Rahman Nizami, said the FO.
