NAB approves 20 inquires including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday approved 20 inquires including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

In a NAB executive board meeting chaired by NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, the accountability body gave a go-ahead to probe against the twenty people including former premier Abbasi. It was reported that Abbasi will be probed about his tenure as a former federal petroleum minister.

The NAB today also approved initiation of probe against former petroleum secretary Arshad Mirza, former managing director Pakistan State Oil Sheikh Imranul Haq, Deputy MD PSO Yaqub Sattar and former Bank of Punjab president Naeemuddin Khan.

It is worth mentioning here that the accountability body gave a go-ahead to the probe against Abbasi who served as minister for petroleum during Nawaz’s tenure before assuming charge of PM office and others.

The inquiry initiated for granting a 15-year contract of LNG terminal to a company of their liking in violation of rules and by misuse of their powers, which caused national exchequer a loss of billions of rupees.

Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said a corruption free Pakistan and the arrest of most wanted suspects is on the cards.

The NAB chairman said NAB will transform Pakistan into a corruption free nation and mega corruption scandals will reach a logical end. “The nations’ stolen money will be brought back,” he asserted.

– Demand for a 90-day remand of NAB law –

Shedding light on his demand for a 90-day remand of suspects in high profile cases, the chairman said, such cases cannot be solved within 15 days and require a longer time period.

“White collar crimes are not easy to investigate,” he said. “The crime is committed in Lahore and the money is laundered all the way to US to purchase plazas.”

Shehbaz Sharif declares NAB’s remand law as ‘black law’

Earlier, NAB finalised the list of witnesses against incumbent opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme scandal. The list prepared by NAB’s prosecution team will record their statement against Sharif. The statements will be recorded on Jan 3.
