Naqeebullah case: Rao Anwaar, Shakeel Feroze sent to jail till May 2
An anti-terrorism court on Saturday sent former Malir SSP Rao Anwar to jail till May 2 in the Naqeebullah Mehsud case.
The court ordered that the charge sheet be presented at the next hearing.
Anwar was produced in the court on Saturday.
District Central SSP Dr Rizwan, the investigation officer, requested the court for some time to submit the final charge sheet. He said the joint investigation team had yet to complete its enquiry. The court granted him until May 2 and adjourned the hearing.
A journalist asked Rao Anwar whether Naqeebullah was a terrorist. Anwar said he would answer the question after the final charge sheet was submitted in the court.
Naqeebullah’s family and members of the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga were present at the hearing. Some of them complained that Rao Anwar was being treated like a ‘special guest’ of the government.
The court also sent to jail Constable Shakil, who was allegedly part of the team that killed Naqeebullah in the fake encounter.
The court also extended the judicial remand of former DSP Qamar Ahmed and 8 other suspects.
Strict security arrangements had been made for the occasion. Police have registered complaints against 24 suspects in the murder case. Out of them, 11 have been arrested.
