LAHORE ( 92 News) – Imprisoned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif – who is serving a 7-year jail term after being convicted in the Al-Azizia Reference – fell sick under captivity in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail.

It was reported that Nawaz Sharif has complained of mild fever and headache. The former premier requested from the jail administration for examining from his own personal physician but he was not allowed.

On the other hand, former premier daughter Maryam Nawaz and his son met with Nawaz Sharif. However, Maryam provided the medicines to her father.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities maintain that the blood pressure and sugar of the PML-N Quaid is checked on regular basis whereas he is also taking his medicines timely.

On December 24, the accountability court convicted Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference and sentenced him to seven years in prison, besides imposing a fine of Rs1.5 billion, and acquitted him in the Flagship reference case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Mega corruption scandal.

Currently, the NAB has also filed two appeals in the IHC, the first has sought an extension in Sharif’s sentence from seven to 14 years, and the other has challenged his acquittal in the Flagship Investment reference.

The Supreme Court had on July 28, 2017, while deciding petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and other political leaders, disqualified Nawaz Sharif and directed the NAB to file three references — Avenfield Properties, Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment — against him and other members of his family in the accountability court.

Accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir had on July 6, 2018 convicted Sharif in the Avenfield reference and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

However, an IHC division bench comprising Chief Justice Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb suspended the sentence in the Avenfield reference.
