Nawaz’s plea to record Wajid Zia’s statement same day rejected
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir rejected Nawaz Sharif’s plea to record statements of Wajid Zia in three references the same day.
The court also recorded evidence by three witnesses.
Khwaja Haris said that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ordered that a witness in more than one references should record testimony once. He said allowing Wajid Zia multiple opportunities to take the stand would weaken the defence. NAB Prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar objected to the request. The deputy prosecutor general asked the judge to reject the request.
NAB Prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar said Nawaz Sharif wanted to delay the trial by making pointless requests. The judge reserved his ruling for a while before announcing that the application had been rejected. Wajid Zia has been scheduled to record his testimony in one of the references at the next hearing on March 8.
