New spell of rain, snowfall likely to hit Balochistan
QUETTA (92 News) – More rain with snowfall over hills is likely to occur in Balochistan on Friday.
According to the details garnered, another weather system is likely to approach scattered and alert was issued across the province.
While in Balochistan rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is predicted at isolated places of Northern Balochistan in Quetta, Kalat and Zhob divisions.
Mercury falls to -13 C in parts of Balochistan
Large swathes of the country continued to experience an intense spell of cold wave over the past 24 hours with temperatures falling as low as -13 degrees Celsius in parts of Balochistan.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Quetta shivered at the record low temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius, Ziarat minus 12 degrees Celsius and Ziarat minus 13 degrees Celsius. Zhob experienced as low temperature as -2 degrees Celsius and Dalbadin -3 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office said various parts of the province will continue to reel under the biting cold with overcast skies. Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country today, while very cold in upper parts and north Balochistan, it added.
Death toll due to heavy snowfall increases to 115 across country
The death toll due to landslides after heavy rain and snowfall has increased to 115 across the country. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as many as 78 people were killed due to landslide and avalanches in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Balochistan, 20 people killed and 236 houses were damaged due to snowfall.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five people were killed, while two people died in Gilgit-Baltistan. .Several link roads have been affected in Blaochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The NDMA spokesman said that they were in complete contact with all departments concerned. “Field teams are working to provide a relief to the affected people,” he said. He said that 2,000 tents, 1250 blankets and 2,250 items have been transported to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army is continuing its rescue and relief operation in rain and snow-hit areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Balochistan.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army’s rescue and relief operations are underway in the affected areas of Neelam Valley, Gilgit and Balochistan.
The ISPR also said that army helicopters are delivering relief goods, tents, blankets, rations, medicines and prepared food to the victims.
Military personnel, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the civil administration are taking joint steps.
Meanwhile, blocked Karakoram Highway and Jaglot Skardu Road at Pattan, Matta Banda, Shatial, Tatta Pani, Hunza ,Sost, Morkhoon, Khunjerab and Dambudas have been restored.
ISPR said that portions of N50 and N25 at Khan Mehtarzai and Lakpass Tunnel in Balochistan have also been cleared.
