Operation launched against slum in ICT; Residents pelt stones, police resort to shelling
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Operation to demolish the slum areas in I-11 in Islamabad started early Thursday morning with heavy machinery reaching the location in presence of heavy contingents of police and rangers.
As per details, initially the police and Islamabad administration tried to negotiate with the residents. However, after failure to convince them to leave, the Capital Development Authority machinery moved in. As a result, the locals pelted stones, due to which some security officials were injured. They were shelled at, due to which several lost consciousness. Also, around 50 were arrested.
A total of 200 homes will be demolished today which have been constructed over government property worth millions.
