Opponents want to pressurize PM by involving me, says Maryam Nawaz
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has on Wednesday appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Leaks case and recorded her statement.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter recorded her statement before the six-man panel during two hours of questioning.
Later talking to the media outside the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad, she said that she had answered all the questions the joint investigation team asked her, adding that the JIT’s are formed to probe accusations but this is the first JIT which is finding the accusations.
The prime minister’s daughter strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan without even mentioning his name.
Maryam Nawaz said that being daughter of the nation and child of the premier who always upheld the rule of law and constitution, she also appeared before the JIT.
“It is a matter of pride for PML-N and its supporters that there are no charges of corruption, commission and kickbacks against the PM and the government,” she added.
She said: “The opponents have only targeted the family’s business affairs on which questions cannot be raised, adding that the people facing allegations of embezzlement in public money are hiding behind stay orders.
Maryam Nawaz went on to say that she fully understands as to why she is being involved repeatedly in different leaks, adding that by involving the name of the daughter, the opponents want to bring the PM under pressure, however, she said the opponents should not remain in any misunderstanding as she will prove to be a source of power for her father.
Earlier on her arrival at the Judicial Academy, Maryam Nawaz was accompanied by her brothers Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, her husband MNA, Captain (r ) Safdar and State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurengzeb. A female DSP was also accompanying her.
Strict security arrangements had been made on the occassion.
A large number of PML (N) leaders especially women had also gathered outside the judicial academy to express solidarity with Maryam Nawaz.
They are also carrying banners inscribed with slogans in favour of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
Meanewhile, in her tweets, Maryam Nawaz had said that her father had seen and been through the most testing times and aced out his rivals in over 30 years of his political career.
“Yet as an affectionate and protective father, I saw his eyes filled with concern and apprehensions over his daughter’s appearance before the JIT. I told him that I am your daughter, trained by you and will neither cower down nor yield to pressure. Nothing will deter me,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz said that she would appear before the JIT and like her father, follow the rule of law.
