Pak Army reacts to MQM chief’s remarks, MQM Co-ordination Committee interprets speech as ‘praise’ for COAS
ISLAMABAD/KARACHI (92 News) – Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asim Bajwa condemned the statement made by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday, saying that legal action will be taken against the leadership.
In a tweet on Friday morning, the ISPR DG termed the MQM chief’s statement “disgusting and intolerable”, saying that the media is being used to incite hatred against the state and its institutions.
“Altaf Hussain’s speech on TV last night containing remarks about Army & its leadership was uncalled for and disgusting. Such reference to Army or its leadership as reaction to arrest of criminals, who may have links with any political party, won’t be tolerated,” the tweet said.
“Law enforcement agencies will continue to perform duties assigned to them,” he added.
Meanwhile, MQM coordination committee defended Altaf’s remarks saying the MQM chief’s remarks were being misinterpreted. “Altaf Hussain did not criticize the armed forces, but praised the Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif in his speech,” the member said in a press conference.
Earlier, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a late night address criticised the military and said the party had always been discriminated against. “Those who surrendered are called patriots while the founders of Pakistan are dubbed as traitors,” he said. “Those in the corridors of power had never accepted us as “sons of the soil”. Pakistan would bear an irreparable loss if atrocities against the MQM are not stopped.”
