ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi says Pakistan wants peace in the region and decision to release Indian Fighter Pilot is a gesture to de-escalate the situation.

In an interview with American-based TV channel ‘CNN’, he said India had created a tense situation in the region violating Pakistan airspace and international laws. Asked if he could envision an all-out war between the two nuclear-armed rivals, Qureshi said he hoped not as that would be a “mutual suicide”.

India violates UN charter, international laws

“The situation certainly was serious, when India attacked Pakistan, when they violated our airspace and dropped bombs in Pakistan, when they violated the UN charter, when they violated international law and undertook the act of aggression. This was serious… Indian air force is fully mobilised, Pakistan air force is fully mobilised… How dangerous can it be?”

FM Qureshi said Pakistan never wanted escalation as Prime Minister Imran Khan has several times said that if India takes one step, Pakistan will take two. He also said Pakistan will not allow any organization or individual to use its soil against any country including India.

India should share solid evidence about Pulwama incident

He said if India has solid evidence about Pulwama incident, it should sit and talk over it. “When this tragic Pulwama incident took place, the first thing I did was to condemn it, and condole. PM Imran made a very balanced, reasonable offer that if India has actionable evidence, it should share with Pakistan.”

UN, US can play significant role in de-escalation of tensions

The minister said that United Nations and the US can play a significant role in de-escalation of tensions in the region. Regarding Afghanistan, Foreign Minister said Pakistan is working for peace and reconciliation in that country.

Trump acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts toward peace

FM Qureshi said President Trump and other high officials have acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts toward peace in Afghanistan.

The minister said the incumbent government wants to concentrate on fixing the economic issues of the country and bold measures have been taken to eradicate corruption from Pakistan.

Earlier, FM Qureshi on wrote a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, drawing his attention to the Indian war mania.

In his letter was delivered to Guterres’ office by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi, Qureshi wrote of the Indian forces’ violation of the Line of Control on the morning of February 26.

He said that Indian deliberate aggression is blatant violation of the UN Charter, international laws and all inter-state codes. “I stress the UN Security Council to force India to halt Indian aggression,” he said.
