Pakistan has to look out for what is in country’s best interests: FM
DAVOS (92 News) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Thursday that when it comes to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan has to look out for what is in the country’s best interests on Thursday.
In a statement, the foreign minister mentioned, “Pakistan will continue to do what is beneficial to us. Keeping in view of the CPEC, we have to look at our own interests; we will stick to what is in our interest.”
US president expresses willingness to visit Pakistan
FM Qureshi said that US President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to visit Pakistan. He said the Trump considers Pakistan an important country and he wants to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.
He has warned that deterioration of situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir or a conflict in South Asia will leave negative impact on the regional economy. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan has effectively and forcefully presented its stance on important matters.
The statement came a day after China issued a strongly reacted to allegations levelled by US envoy Alice Wells. US claimed that Pakistan’s debt burden was growing due to the Chinese financing.
Later, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan emphatically warned the US against meddling in Pak-China ties and the CPEC. “The comments hold nothing new,” the embassy said and reminded that both China and Pakistan have repeatedly rejected similar insinuations in the past.
