Pakistan rejects BRICS declaration on terrorists groups
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Defence Minister Khurram Dastrgir Khan has rejected the declaration of the BRICS, saying there is no safe havens of terrorists.
The minister stressed the need to bring the terrorists and facilitators justice. “Out of 407 districts in Afghanistan, only 57 districts are under the control of the government. About 40 percent area has safe havens for terrorists,” he maintained.
Khurram Dastgir Khan said that Pakistan faces no external aggression. “Pakistan’s ground, air and sea borders are being monitored strictly,” he said.
He said that any US action in the region will destabilize Pakistan.
The leaders of the five emerging market BRICS powers have for the first time named militant groups – the banned Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and Jaish-e-Mohammad – as a regional security concern and called for their patrons to be held to account.
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa make up the BRICS grouping. China has generally been supportive of its ally Pakistan in the past.
The group had called for an immediate end to violence in Afghanistan.
