Pakistani girl born in Amritsar jail reaches homeland
LAHORE (92 News) – Three Pakistani nationals, including a girl who was born in Amritsar village, reached the homeland through the Wagha Borderon Thursday.
Mumtaz and Fatima, residents of Gujranwala, were arrested on charges of drug trafficking after travelling to India via Samjhota Express in 2006.
Fatima was pregnant at the time of her arrest and her daughter Hina, who was born in jail and is now 11, can now speak and read Punjabi, Hindi and English. She is a student of Class V in the Amritsar Jail School.
On their arrival, they were accorded a rousing welcome by their family.
A non-governmental organization (NGO) had deposited Rs 400,000 fine to secure their release from Amritsar Jail.
