PIA Case: SC orders inclusion of all ex-MDs’ names in ECL
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered to include the names of all former managing directors of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) served during 2008-2018 in the Exit Control List (ECL).
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar was conducting hearing of suo motu case pertaining to the privatization and audit of the national carrier.
In today’s proceedings, the counsel of the PIA presented audit report of the last nine years.
The CJP asked about the number of aircrafts to which the lawyer said 36, adding that several aircrafts were bought on lease.
The PIA counsel informed the court that the airline suffered a loss of Rs44 billion in 2013, Rs37 billion in 2014, Rs32 billion in 2015, Rs45 billion in 2016 and Rs44 billion in 2017.
He said that four managing directors including a German citizen served during this tenure. The German citizen is a fugitive in the sale of aircrafts.
The court then summoned the government’s report regarding the privatization of the PIA and details of advisers of the national carrier.
