PM Nawaz Sharif, COAS Raheel Sharif leave for KSA, Iran
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif have on Monday (today) left for official visit to Saudi Arabia and Iran in a bid to defuse tensions between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, a high-level delegation including Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security Lieutenant General (r) Nasir Janjua is also accompanied the COAS Raheel Sharif and PM Nawaz Sharif.
The prime minister will today meet Saudi Arabian King Prince Salman bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud and tomorrow (Tuesday) he will meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
During the visit, COAS Raheel Sharif and PM Nawaz Sharif will try to defuse tensions between the two countries that spiraled after the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia and to restore diplomatic relations.
