PM Nawaz Sharif unveils Rs 431 billion package for farmers; says laid foundation of development projects

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Tuesday unveiled a big relief package of about Rs 431 billion for the farmers.

Unveiling the package at Kisan convention in Islamabad, he said that the package envisages direct cash assistance to the farmers, relief in prices of agriculture inputs, provision of agriculture loans and simplifying the procedure of loans.

Nawaz Sharif announced that Rs 5000 will of cash grants will be given to small growers of rice and cotton affected by slump in prices of commodities, for which the government will spend Rs 40 billion.

He said that a fund of twenty billion rupees is being set up to provide fertilizers to the growers at low rate. “Rs 25 billion have been allocated to provide Urea to the farmers at reduced rates and directed the provincial governments to ensure implementation of old rate of Urea from next month,” he said.

He announced that interest free loans will be provided to the farmers for installation of solar tube wells or converting existing ones to the solar. He also announced power tariff concessions for the tube wells.

“The government will pay premium for crop insurance scheme,” the prime minister said. He said that Rs 30 billion will be given as loan to three hundred thousand small farmers without any guarantee.

Sharif said that duties on imported agriculture machinery have been reduced from 43 percent to nine percent for three years.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Tuesday said that people talk about Pakistan’s bankruptcy but now the circumstances are in front of everyone.

He said that the country was devastated because of terrorism.

Sharif said that now everyone should think about Pakistan, adding that why was not war against terrorism started earlier. “Karachi operation should have started long ago, adding that was it a responsibility of the PLM-N government,” he said.

He said that PML-N has laid foundation of development projects, adding that the enemy cannot dare to even think of launching an attack after development is defense system.

The PM said that the US president had asked him not to test nuclear bomb.
