PM urges political leadership to stand united for Economic Corridor

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has stressed upon the need for political leadership to stand united in matters pertaining to national interests.

Expressing his views while delivering an introductory speech at the All Parties Conference (APC) to discuss the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, Nawaz Sharif said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government wants to conduct national affairs with consensus and understanding with all parties of the country. “The initiation of CPEC project is a historical milestone in the relationship of Pakistan and China,” he said, adding that Pak-China friendship is above politics and China has never discriminated in friendship with Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan should send a message to China that the people of the country are on same page with the mega project. “Political leaders reserve their right to disagree and show reservations over any aspect of the CPEC,” he said. “The government is open to constructive criticism.”

The prime minister assured all the members that the reservations of would be cleared with logic.

Leaders of the PTI, PPP could not attend the conference.

The CPEC is being dubbed as a “fate changer” not only for Pakistan but for the entire region. The project envisages construction of three alignments from Gwadar to Kashgar as well as establishment of energy projects and industrial zones all over the country.
