PML-N nominates Zafarul Haq, Opp fields Sanjrani for Senate Chairman
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday has nominated Raja Zafarul Haq as its candidate for the Senate chairman slot.
Talking to media in Islamabad on Monday, Senior PML-N leader Mushahidullah Khan announced the names of ruling party’s candidates for Chairman and Deputy Chairman.
The PML-N leadership announced to field Usman Kakar on the deputy chairman slot.
Mushahidullah Khan said that the decision over the names of candidates for the top slots was made unanimously.
He further claimed that the ruling party had the required numbers to get their candidates elected.
Mushahidullah said both Raja Zafarul Haq and Usman Kakar have rendered services for the cause of democracy and upholding of prestige of parliamentary institutions.
Later, both the nominees of the ruling party filed their nomination papers for the two slots.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had last night announced Sadiq Sanjrani and Saleem Mandviwala as their joint candidates for the Senate shairman and the Senate Deputy Chairman respectively.
The decision to nominate Sanjrani and Mandviwala as the joint candidates of the opposition parties was taken after days of consultations.
The PPP and PTI-backed candidates for the office of Chairman and Senate Deputy Chairman have filed their nomination papers for the election being today.
Sadiq Sanjrani is candidate for the office of Chairman and Saleem Mandviwalla for Senate Deputy Chairman.
The PTI will also be backing the PPP’s nominee for deputy Senate chairman, who will be a part of Bizenjo’s panel, as per an agreement with the Baluchistan chief minister.
On the other hand, eight FATA Senators have also announced to support Sadiq Sanjrani in the Chairman Senate election.
Sanjrani, an independent senator from Baluchistan, is considered close to the PPP leadership and may be backed by the ruling party in Sindh, in exchange for his support to the PPP’s proposed deputy chairman, and by four out of five MQM-P senators, who have also extended their support to the PPP’s nominee for deputy chairman, according to well-placed sources.
