Polling for by-polls in PS-114 underway, clashes reported
KARACHI (92 News) – Polling for by-election in Sindh Assembly constituency PS-114 Karachi is in progress. It will continue till 5.00pm without any break.
As many as 193,000 registered voters are using their right to franchise to elect the representative of their choice.
Strict security arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of polling.
Meanwhile, DG Rangers Major General Mohammad Saeed visited various polling stations and expressed satisfaction over the polling process in peace-full manner.
Talking to media after visiting, he said that people have come out to cast their votes without any fear.
He said that security personnel will remain there till the end of polling process.
The Rangers DG said that out of 92, reports of clashes and tense situation were reported at one polling station in the constituency, however, he declared the situation under control now.
Clashes in Chanesar Goth:
Clashes between an independent candidate and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) die-hard workers erupted in Chanesar Goth due to which the polling process was suspended, while female Rangers personnel searched the polling agents and staff and recovered copies of ID cards.
An Election Commission of Pakistan spokesperson said that the voting process did not stop despite the disturbances outside.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) accused the PPP of rigging the by-elections.
PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikg and PML-N leader Sultan said that the PPP workers were involved in rigging, adding that their party workers were also tortured.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) candidate Kamran Tesori said that party’s Member National Assembly Mahfooz Yar Khan was beaten, adding that the PPP’s die-hard workers have also beaten polling agents of independent candidate.
He appealed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against those involved in stopping the polling process as the Police DIG didn’t listen to their complaints.
PPP candidate Saeed Ghani said that the women from family were misbehaved, adding that he has informed the ECP and Sindh Rangers regarding his reservations.
He accused polling officer of barring the PPP’s polling agents from entering the polling station.
PPP leader Nabeel Gabol said that those involved in rigging are getting ready for 2018 general elections.
He appealed the ECP to take notice of the situation.
