Joint opposition all set to hold protest in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) – The joint opposition led by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) is all set to hold an anti-government protest in Lahore today (Wednesday) to seek justice for victims of the Model Town tragedy as the preparations have been completed.

The stage has been completed on Faisal Chowk which will be used by the leadership of different parties to speak to the protestors.

Thousands of chairs have been installed for the public, while the stage has been completed for the party leaders.

The roads have been decorated on all sides with party flags and party leaders have also visited the rally spot to review the arrangements.

The joint opposition, which includes Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Awami Muslim League (AML), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), had announced to hold anti-government protests.

The protest movement is aimed at pressurizing Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah to tender resignation for their role in the Model Town tragedy.

 

 

On the other hand, the provincial government had refused to allow opposition parties to hold protest and sit-in at the Faisal Chowk citing security reasons. The provincial government had also summoned three companies of Pakistan Rangers ahead of the opposition’s protest on Mall Road.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan rescued himself from hearing case to bar opposition protest in Lahore.

Earlier, PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri said that Imran Khan and Asif Zardari will be on the same stage and address the gathering from the same stage.

He said that the Sultanat-e-Sharifia will come to an end. “Now we are not seeking resignations, but will get the resignations. The protest having two sessions will start at 12noon,” he said.

The PAT chief said that the rulers will have to leave at all costs. He said that they have prepared the future course of action, which will be announced tomorrow. “We will protest within the ambit of the law and the constitution. All will see what will happen,” he declared.

Pak Sarzammeen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal has reached Lahore to participate in the joint opposition protest.

Talking to media, he said that the entire system of the country has been destroyed, adding that they would not stay silent. We are standing by the people, he added

SHEIKH RASHEED

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed said that today is the first day of protest against the thieves, looters and dacoits.

He said that they wouldn’t take rest until the rulers are taken to justice.

IMRAN KHAN

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan will reach Lahore after 4pm to participate in the joint opposition protest.

The PTI chairman directed the party’s central leadership to ensure their presence in the protest.
