Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announces mega housing project for homeless people

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced a mega housing project at mass scale for homeless people.

He was addressing the concluding session of the two-day international conference on Affordable Housing and Mortgage Finance in Islamabad on Friday.

“We will fulfil the housing needs of 40 million families. We should construct new cities,” he said.

He suggested that the private sector should give their suggestions and coordinate with the government for launching housing schemes.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the government intends to activate the housing industry to enhance country’s GDP growth.


He said there is a shortage of nine million houses in the country. “Housing Finance Credit Guarantee Scheme will be launched to provide loans for houses.”

The minister said the Housing Building Finance Corporation has also been revamped to facilitate the people.

He said that recommendations of the conference will be incorporated in the coming budget to be announced on June 5. “In the budget, special schemes will be announced for agriculture, housing industry, aviation and backward areas,” he disclosed.
