Prolonged power outages return to haunt public
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Despite tall claims of the government, the duration of load-shedding across the country has extended till up to 16 hours. Tripped feeders, cables and technical faults have also led to prolonged power outages.
Intermittent disruption in power supply all day long added to the miseries of people across the country who have already been experiencing harsh weather conditions and sleepless nights due to the same reasons.
Officials in the Ministry of Water and Power said electricity demand has increased, leaving a 6000-7000 MW gap.
All claims by the government to overcome loadshedding have dashed to the ground as drastic fall in power generation for some days has forced prolonged loadshedding across the country. The Chashma nuclear power plant has stopped generating electricity after developing some technical faults few days ago.
Meanwhile, the mass protests swept various areas of country today were the result of a worsening electricity generation and energy crisis for which country’s ruling elite has no solution.
Protests erupted across the country after crippling power cuts left millions of people without electricity for up to 20 hours. Major cities were convulsed by riots as furious protesters clashed with the police.
On the other hand, in a statement issued, it has been mentioned that the country is facing a power shortfall since last Tuesday due to sudden tripping of NTDC grid lines. Due to this break in the electrical transmission lines of the national grid, all four nuclear power units at Chashma Nuclear Power station, were safely tripped automatically.
All four Nuclear Power Plants at Chashma have been connected to the national grid on Wednesday after National Transmission and Despatch Company assured grid stability which also clarified by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
