Protest erupts against as ex-cop Mumtaz Qadri executed
LAHORE (92 News) – Protest demonstration have been organized in different cities including the capital on Monday against the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri, convicted in the killing of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer.
The agitated protesters blocked the roads and disrupted the traffic.
In Lahore, the route of the metro has been restricted to MAO College due to the ongoing fracases in different areas as the Ravi Bridge has been closed for traffic and heavy contingent of police has been deployed.
In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the protesters closed the expressway and Faizabad interchange causing traffic disruption. The protesters also broke the window panes of multiple vehicles.
Authorities stepped up security in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as hundreds of people began gathering at Qadri’s family home, while some roads were closed in the nearby capital Islamabad as authorities braced for protests.
Heavy contingent of police, Rangers and Frontier Corps have been deployed at important places and entry and exit routes, while the army has been ordered to stand-by.
