Rains, thunderstorms lash parts of country
LAHORE (92 News) – Heavy rain lashed various parts of Punjab, Sindh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday bringing down the mercury considerably leaving the residents shuddering in cold.
Rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills occurred at scattered places of Kashmir, upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and isolated places of Sindh.
The incessant downpour in different areas inundated roads and streets and commuters faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routines.
Power supply of many areas in the country in the provincial metropolis was interrupted after over 70 feeders tripped due to heavy downpour.
However, according to officials of Lahore Electric Supply Company, power supply through over 30 feeders has been restored, while work was under way on 40.
On the other hand, snow continues to fall after frequent intervals in parts of country stranding people in their homes.
Meanwhile, according to Met Office, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Punjab, isolated places in FATA, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, Sukkur and Mirpur Khas divisions of Sindh. Intermittent heavy snowfall is also likely over Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat hills.
Earlier, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar had visited different areas of Karachi to review the situation after the rain in the city.
Waseem Akhtar declared emergency in the KMC and directed the concerned authorities to make arrangements for swift and proper drainage of all rain water from their areas.
