With 50 per cent burns over his body, Khalid passed away at the burns ward of Civil Hospital. The funeral prayers of rickshaw driver was offered and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Khurram Sher Zaman among a large number of people attended the funeral ceremony.

However, a rickshaw driver sprinkled oil on his body and set himself alight near the city police office in Saddar. The rickshaw driver suffered severe burns after self-immolation in a protest against the alleged challan and extortion by traffic police.

The driver sprinkled oil on his body and set himself alight, saying he was ‘fed up’ with daily challan and alleged ‘extortion’ by the traffic police.

In his statement being shared on social media, Khalid alleged that ASI Mohammed Hanif had been extracting Rs100 from him daily. He gave the policeman Rs50 on Saturday, but the latter insisted on Rs100 and on refusal the ASI handed him a challan.

Meanwhile, the arrested ASI claimed that he did not demand for bribe or money and challaned Khalid due to non-availability of the documents.

On the other hand, the family of the rickshaw driver said that Khalid’s death has set an example against the misdeeds of this society and now the police officer responsible for this tragedy should be taught a strict lesson so that nobody dares to take bribes.
