Road mishap leaves 25 dead, many hurt in Khanpur

KHANPUR (92 News) – At least 25 people including women and children were killed and more than 70 injured when two buses collided with each other on Khanpur Road near Sahja on Monday.

As per details, a bus heading towards Karachi from Gujrat collided with another bus heading towards Lahore from Karachi near Sahja, killing at least two people including women and children and injuring more than 70 others.

The incident occurred at about 6am near Rahim Yar Khan, a Punjab city about 600km (373 miles) south of provincial capital Lahore. Images from the crash site showed a bus on its side with its windows shattered, and another bus with its roof partly caved in.

After being informed, police and rescue officials reached the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to nearby hospital for medical assistance. Most of the injured are said to be in critical condition.


Emergency has been imposed in the district following the accident.

According to eye witnesses, the ill-fated accident occurred due to over-speeding, while police have launched probe into the incident.

Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan, where traffic rules are rarely enforced and roads in many rural areas are poor.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office said he has “expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives”.
