Sahiwal incident: LHC rejects plea to form judicial commission
LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday rejected the petition seeking formation of judicial commission in the Sahiwal incident.
A two-member bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan heard the petition. An inquiry report by Sahiwal session’s judge was submitted in the LHC.
During the hearing, Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan remarked that it is not in court’s jurisdiction to form the judicial commission, however, the counsel is allowed to argue.
The lawyer said a judicial commission was also formed to probe the Model Town incident, upon which the LHC inquired about the law which allows the court to form the commission.
Meanwhile, the government prosecutor argued that the joint investigation team (JIT) submitted the challan in trial court after recording the statements of the witnesses, adding that there is no need of judicial commission after the judicial inquiry.
Sahiwal incident: JIT submits report to Punjab CM
On Feb 23, the joint investigation team (JIT) submitted the report of Sahiwal incident to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
According to the reports, the JIT has sent report of Sahiwal shootout, in which Kalil with his family and Zeeshan killed, to the Punjab chief minister.
In the report, deceased Khalil and his family declared as innocent while the character of slain Zeeshan termed as terrorist.
The report also revealed that slain Zeeshan’s brother Ihteshaam, mother and wife were known about the suspected activities of Zeeshan. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials altered the evidences and weapons.
Meanwhile, the department has also suggested to launch investigation against the senior officers for altering the evidence.
Sahiwal incident: JIT report declares Khalil, his family innocent
Earlier, the JIT declared deceased Khalil and his family members – who were killed in Sahiwal incident – innocent in its final report.
According to the sources, Zeeshan was declared as culprit in the JIT final report. The sources said that the report revealed that dozens of messages were found in Zeeshan’s phone establishing his contact with suspected criminals.
The sources also said that suspected people’s involved terrorists visiting Zeeshan’s house and Zeeshan would give protection to such people at home.
“The intelligence report was also about Zeeshan. While, Khalil’s family could have been saved, but the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials misused their authority,” they said.
The sources said all those six officials involved in firing were arrested, while no traces of firing from inside the car were found.
Earlier Jan 19, four people, including two women, were killed by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials near toll plaza. A child was also injured in the cross-fire, while two remained unhurt. The injured has been shifted to hospital. The local police have expressed their ignorance about the incident.
The CTD spokesman claimed that a CTD team tried to stop a car and bike, but the car riders opened fire on them. He said that four people, including two women, were killed. “Three terrorists managed to escape and have been identified as Shahid Jabbar, Abdul Rehman and their accomplice. This was part of the operation in Faisalabad that took place on January 16,” he added.
He said that a killed terrorist has been identified, adding that the terrorists were traveling with the family to avoid the arrest. “It is a network of a banned organization who had killed three officers of the ISI in Multan and one in Faisalabad. Adeel Hafeez was killed in Faisalabad, while Zeeshan was killed in Sahiwal,” he disclosed.
The CTD spokesman claimed that the terrorists had kidnapped a US national and son of former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani. “These terrorists had killed several people and were involved in several firing and blast incidents,” he said.
He said that it was the most dangerous group of Daesh in Punjab.
Witnesses said that no resistance was shown from the car. They added that the security personnel opened fire on the car and killed four people. They said that the officials took away three children from the site.
The injured child said that they were going to their relatives in Burewala. “My father requested the policemen to get money and not open the fire at them. My father’s friend called Molvi was accompanying us,” he said.On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of the Sahiwal incident and ordered to make the facts public. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar phoned the IGP Punjab and hold investigations into the incident.
