ISLAMABAD (92 News) – PML-N candidate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been elected the prime minister with 221 votes.

He got 23 votes less than former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, a joint candidate of the PTI and PML-Q, got 33 votes.

PPP’s Naveed Qamar got 47 votes, while Sahibzada Tariqullah of the JI received four votes.

Soon after the success of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was announced, the House roared with the slogans in favor of Nawaz Sharif.

However, PTI chairman Imran Khan did not participate in the session.

Addressing the House, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that there was no corruption charge against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. “One day Sheikh Rasheed will also testify that Nawaz Sharif has not committed corruption,” he added.

He said that they accepted the SC verdict.

The prime minister thanked Nawaz Sharif for nominating him for this slot. “I have come to do work. I am not a seat-warmer,” he maintained.

He said that he had more assets before coming to the assembly than now he has. “Nawaz Sharif had only one fault that he took the country to progress,” he maintained.
