KARACHI (92 News) – The Sindh cabinet on Monday approved the restoration of student unions in educational institutions.

According to the decision made on Monday, student unions will help work for promotion of extra-curricular activities.

Under bill, hindering educational activities, spreading hatred, possession of weapons and bringing them to campuses is strictly prohibited

It states that union will be responsible for enhancing the educational environment on campus and maintaining discipline.

“The union will comprise of seven to 11 people and heads will be appointed by teachers,” the bill adds.

After the bill is presented in the Sindh Assembly, it will be sent to the Standing Committee on Law. It will be passed after recommendations from all stakeholders are made.

Earlier on Monday, commenting on the student unions matter, Minister for Science and technology Fawad Chaudhry said that student unions cannot be banned at any cost.

He said that he fully supports the student unions. “It is right of the students to raise the voice against the ban,” he said. He said that the government should quash all the cases registered against students.

The minister said that unions should work in an environment free of violence. He said that unions should work in an environment free of violence. He expressed the confidence that Pakistan will emerge as a dynamic country by empowering the youth.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed to restore restore student unions with a “comprehensive and enforceable code of conduct”.

The prime minister announced two days after the Student Solidarity March held across the country on November 29. He said that his government will restore student union with enforceable code of conduct, learning from the best practices in internationally renowned universities.

“We will establish a comprehensive & enforceable code of conduct, learning from the best practices in internationally renowned universities, so that we can restore & enable student unions to play their part in positively grooming our youth as future leaders of the country,” PM Khan tweeted.
