Solar plane departs Myanmar for China

MANDALAY – The two pilots of Solar Impulse 2, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg leave Myanmar on Monday for China as they continue their attempt to circumnavigate the world in a solar-powered airplane.

The plane left Mandalay at 3:36 am local time (9:06 pm GMT) and is expected to land in China after a 19-hour flight.

The flight will be physically demanding for the pilots due to the prolonged use of oxygen required in the unpressurized cockpit. They will also face temperatures descending to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

During the coming months, the pair will cross the Pacific Ocean and stop in the USA, Northern Africa or Southern Europe as they spread their message of clean technologies. –Reuters
