South Punjab province bill presented in National Assembly
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A legislation bill of South Punjab province from Punjab on Tuesday was presented in National Assembly (NA).
According to the details garnered, the legislation bill of South Punjab province tabled in the NA, however, the federal government also supported the bill. Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Q backed the bill tabled in the lower house of the parliament.
PML-N MNA Rana Sanaullah moved the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to create new province of South Punjab. Ahsan Iqbal, another member of the PML-N, while endorsing the bill said, “This is the big day for the people of South Punjab.” He also called the ruling PTI not to oppose the legislation.
Law Minister Farogh Naseem and other government members not opposed the bill, which was referred to the relevant standing committee for further consideration.
On the other hand, the MQM demanded to create a new province in the Sindh as the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) opposed and exchanged harsh words during the session. Meanwhile, another bill, to make country’s economy interest-free, was tabled in the NA.
People’s Party leader and former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that the PPP was the first political party who took the initiative for creation of the new province. Another PPP member Naveed Qamar also backed the bill.
PML-Q leader and Minister of Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema supported the bill he also stressed the need for carving out Bahawalpur province in Punjab.
MQM member Iqbal Mohammad Ali while talking on the new province bill also called for creation of South Punjab, Bahawalpur, Hazara and southern Sindh provinces in the country.
PML-N demands creation of South Punjab province immediately
Earlier, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif assured to extend full cooperation in creation of new province and restoration of Bahawalpur province in Punjab.
Taking to the floor of National Assembly, he said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) is considering tabling a private bill for this purpose. He said the PTI had also promised to create South Punjab new province and now it should take steps for this purpose.
He said his government in past had passed resolutions in the Punjab Assembly in past for the creation of South Punjab province and restoration of Bahawalpur province. He said PML-N is sincere to this cause and the treasury benches should also move forward with same spirit.
