Three plane hijackers among eight hanged across the country

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – As many as eight death row convicts including three convicted of May 1998 plane hijacking were hanged in different cities of the country on Thursday morning.

According to details, the eight culprits were hanged in Hyderabad, Karachi, Sahiwal, Attock, Sargodha and Haripur jails.

Out of three convicted for hijacking a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-554 carrying 38 people from Gwadar to Karachi, two were sent to the gallows in Hyderabad Central Jail while one was executed in Karachi Central Jail amid heightened security arrangements. The hijackers wanted the steer the plan to India but the pilot landed it at Hyderabad Airport where security forces arrested the hijackers.


Pakistan lifted the de-facto moratorium on death penalty on December 17 last year, a day after Taliban gunmen attacked a school in Peshawar killing 134 students and 19 adults.
