Toddler’s killing by police: IGP Sindh tenders apology to victim’s family
KARACHI (92 News) – Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Wednesday tendered an apology to the 19-month-old Ahsan’s family on behalf of the police department.
Addressing a press conference, the SIndh IGP vowed not to let the incident repeated again in future, adding that Sindh Police expressed sorrow over the child’s death.
Dr Kaleem has urged high-level officers to conduct a specialised training session to police personnel. “We have briefed all of our officials regarding their duties but we will give more training to our personnel with the light weapon as the usages of heavy arms were ended.”
While detailing sacrifices of the police department, Imam said that more than 2,500 personnel were martyred to eliminate lawlessness, which significantly reduced crime rate up to 53 per cent including mobile snatching cases. The police also department arrested 71 terrorists and 12 target killers.
He said that Sindh Police follows the rule of law and believes in being accountable before the courts and nation. “I want to apologise to the victim family and we are standing with them.”
Sindh CM takes notice of child’s murder by allegedly police firing
A day earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of 19-month-old boy Ahsan’s murder by the allegedly firing of police.
According to the reports, Ahsan was died on the spot sustained a bullet in his chest, reportedly fired from a police weapon in Karachi.
Dead child’s father Kashif said that he along with his child were traveling in an auto rickshaw when he heard the sound of firing and he bow down to save his life.
At the same moment, Kashif said that he saw blood on the clothes of his son and he rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced his child dead.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kashif also claimed that he saw police personnel firing on the University Road. He also alleged that his son died of the bullet fired by the policemen.
Kashif said that when he reached at the hospital to get his son treated, policemen from Sachal Police Station were arrived there.
Sindh Chief Minister takes notice
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the child’s murder and sought report from the additional IG Sindh. Condoling with the bereaved family, the chief minister said that those found involved in the incident would be brought to justice.
Sindh Inspector-General of Police Dr Kaleem Imam also took notice of the issue and sought comprehensive report from the DIG east.
