Turbat Massacre: 13 labourers laid to rest; JIT formed to probe killings

RAHIM YAR KHAN (92 News) – Thirteen of the 20 labourers killed by unknown gunmen yesterday were buried, with relatives hugging their beloveds in Sadiqabad on Sunday.

The dead bodies, transported by government ambulances, reached the native village to find the relatives stricken with grief. After offering the funeral prayers, the dead were buried in the local graveyard. No prominent official or public representative attended the funeral.

Headed by Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will probe the killings. Eight levies’ officials have been suspended for negligence, failure to protect lives of citizens.

Balochistan government has presented an initial report of its findings into the carnage to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Earlier on Saturday, around 50 gunmen reached the camp of labourers working at the Sohrab Dam camp by cars and motorbikes and surrounded the camp. After their identification by their NICs, the labourers were made to stand in a line and were shot dead by automatic weapons. As a result, 20 labourers were killed and three were injured.
