US concerned over bloggers missing in Pakistan
WASHINGTON (92 News) – The US has on Friday expressed concern over reports that several Pakistani bloggers and activists have been missing in recent weeks.
Addressing the news briefing in Washington on Friday, US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said that the US is very concerned by reports that several Pakistani bloggers and activists have been missing and we’re going to continue to monitor the situation.
“Of course, we value freedom of expression. That’s something we take very seriously and are going to continue to monitor the situation in Pakistan,” the spokesperson said.
He went on to say that the US also appreciates the fact that members of both houses of parliament have voiced their concern and called for an investigation into the disappearances.
The spokesman said that the US is establishing a strategic centre within US embassy in Pakistan.
